Rallying the base

Up against nonprofits including Wounded Warrior Project, the Jacksonville Humane Society and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Pit Sisters was a bit of an underdog. We focused our attention on pit bull owners and animal lovers, inviting them to join us on the campaign trail.

Tutus & talking points

You can’t help but smile at a pit bull in a tutu, or question policies based on looks, not DNA. We set up a microsite with stats and stories to help people understand and engage in the pit bull debate. We also reached out to influencers via email and social media.

A shelter dog takes center stage

After two months of campaigning, Pit Sisters had the most votes and an entry shared 2,200 times. They were named Northeast Florida’s Boldest Nonprofit. For the awards ceremony, we worked with organizers to bring a special guest.

Pit Sisters took the stage with Anilina, one of seven pit bulls rescued from Putnam County Animal Shelter. Pit Sisters had worked with officials to change a decades-old policy that mandated pit bulls be euthanized without a chance at adoption. Anilina was pictured front and center next to Jacksonville’s mayor, raising awareness in media coverage and event photos.

Pit bull dogs have a very bad reputation. We are very happy to win the award because it spreads more awareness.
